Spoiler free section:

I finished this book a couple of days back, and wanted to share with you my opinion on it. I truly enjoyed it as a novel. However, I don’t feel like I learned anything new from it. It’s merely enjoyable, and interesting to read: a little dark at times, as well as sweet, bizarre, and unpredictable.

Spoiler alert section:

May favorite plot point was the idea of having the other mom’s hand cross the door to our world at the end, and roamed around free at the house and backyard. It was trying to snatch the key to her world out of Coraline’s neck. I am, however, relatively unhappy with the ending solution:

I was also unsettled by the ending solution: capturing it in the bottom of the well. If you think about it, there’s still a possibility (albeit small) that the hand will be able to find its way out of the well in the future. A more permanent solution would have been to melt the black key as well.
